Update: Elk Point-Jefferson Lockdown Lifted

Bookmark and Share

The Elk Point-Jefferson School District is no longer in lockdown.  This, after the Union County, South Dakota sheriff's department says they caught the person they were searching for.

School Superintendent Brian Shanks says the lockdown happened around 8:45 Wednesday morning.   It was lifted around 10:45 a.m.  Authorities say the tip originated at the Union County Sheriff's Department. They asked the school to lockdown as a precaution. Authorities say there was no imminent threat to students.

The name of the man and possible charges are not being released, but authorities say they're related to some issues and events taking place in the county.
