A Black Hills State University football player's recovery from an arteriovenous malformation is inspiring the team.
Scott Boner suffered the AVM on May 7 and was flown from Spearfish to Rapid City Regional Hospital for emergency brain surgery.
Boner should be embarking on his final season as a BHSU defensive back, but the Douglas, Wyo., native says he's just glad to be alive.
Those around Boner were told his chances of survival going into surgery were 20 to 25 percent. He was given maybe a 50-50 chance to walk out of the hospital.
But he was in good shape physically, needing to work primarily on his vision and speech patterns.
His brother, Yellow Jackets sophomore Trent Boner, calls the recovery a miracle.
