SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --  The University of Sioux Falls football team enjoyed a big offensive day Saturday at Bob Young Field, running past the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles 52-7 in the first-ever meeting between the programs.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 2-2 on the season and 44-1 all-time at Bob Young Field.

For the third week in a row, USF was carried by its rushing attack, as the Cougars came up just short of a school record with 467 team rushing yards. Junior Nephi Garcia rushed for a career-high 167 yards on 18 carries, the third consecutive game in which Garcia has surpassed the century mark.

The Cougars had 680 yards of total offense for the game, while holding the Eagles to only 211 yards. It’s the first time USF has surpassed the 600-yard mark since they routed Dakota Wesleyan 63-3 on October 23, 2010. USF has now rushed for 1,096 yards in their last three games.

USF started the game with a pair of mistakes on special teams, but after blocking a UMC field goal attempt, got things going on a 5-yard run by Luke Papillion. Joseph Hlushak followed with a 54-yard touchdown run, his first score as a Cougar, to make it 13-0.

USF then put up three touchdowns in the second quarter -- a 1-yard run by Papillion, a 5-yard run by Matt Young and a 31-yard pass from Papillion to Carrington Hanna, to give the Cougars a 35-0 lead at half.

Young's score was the first of his career, and Papillion's strike to Hanna was his first career touchdown pass and USF's first touchdown pass of the season.

After a scoreless third quarter, Garcia scored from 19-yards out to make it 42-0 early in the fourth.
After the Eagles (0-4) broke up the shutout bid on a 50-yard run by Keith McBride, Bradley Hatfield added a 25-yard field goal and Brady Rose rounded out the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, the first of his career.

Papillion finished the game 12-for-23 for a career-high 155 yards passing, while rushing for 77 yards and two scores. Hlushak rushed for 77 yards, while Young had 34 yards rushing and was 6-of-9 for 58 yards through the air.

Hanna had his best game of the season, catching seven passes for 84 yards and a TD while rushing for 26 yards on four attempts.

Defensively, USF was led by John Batinich, who had seven tackles, and Clint Wilson, who had six stops, two for loss. Evan Gentry and Jarrett Grabbe each had sacks for the Cougars.

Golden Eagle freshman quarterback Kyle Larson finished 11-of-25 for 87 yards. His top target was Justin Tago Su'e, who hauled in five catches for 26 yards. Defensively, the Golden Eagles were led by Tevin Kellum, who had an interception and 15 tackles, including 12 solo tackles which ranks second all-time among all UMC players in a single game.

USF will take to the road next week. The Cougars will make their first trip to Mattke Field to face Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m.
