Volunteers gathered at Wind Cave National Park on Saturday to help install 400 feet of new fence at the park's wildlife capture facility.
Park superintendent Vidal Davila says the effort was part of National Public Lands Day, held each year on the last Saturday of September. Nationwide, more than 180,000 volunteers at 2,200 sites participated.
Davila says this year's effort marks the third year in a row that Friends of Wind Cave National Park has helped park staff on National Public Lands Day.
The park uses the capture facility to round up and ship off surplus bison to keep the herd size in check with available vegetation.
