Hudson Carpenter has an unusual hobby.
"I mark my ball with a golden dollar, heads up. I've done that for probably a year or two now. I just find coins that I like and I'll use them for about a year." Carpenter says.
It's fitting because the SDSU senior has been money.
"One of the better short game players I've ever had the chance to coach. And just really creative with his shot making. That's one thing that people will kind of underestimate is that he'll hit an eight iron from screen side bunker just because he can." SDSU Golf Coach Jared Baszler says.
The Minnesota native has improved every year since coming to Brookings in 2010. He's comes into his senior year with five top three tournament finishes
"Really proud of him. He's a senior, it's time for him to step up and do this. And he's going to have a really good year." Baszler says.
And last week Carpenter did, getting his first career win at the Jackrabbit Invitational.
"I don't know what it is, just kind of experience maybe. Just building on experience from previous tournaments and stuff like that. Me personally I'd like to win conference but, obviously, if the team could do it as well that would be just a bonus." Carpenter says.
And that may be Hudson's pay off.
