The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks commission has set a mountain lion hunting season for this winter that sets limits lower than those used in last winter's season.
The commission set a limit of 75 mountain or 50 females. The season would end early if either of those limits is reached.
Last winter's season allowed hunters to take 100 total lions or 70 females. Only 61 were killed by the end of the season.
This winter's season will begin Dec. 26 and run through March 31 in the Black Hills if neither limit is reached.
