South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers are doing sweeps of the 30-mile closed stretch of Interstate 90 in the Black Hills.
Col. Craig Price says troopers are making sure that no one is stranded in the section of highway hit by an early autumn blizzard in the western part of the state. Officials closed I-90 from Sturgis to the Wyoming border and have also advised no travel on other roadways in the region.
The National Weather Service says up to two feet of snow is expected across the Black Hills, with winds gusting to 70 mph. Up to three feet is possible in the northern Black Hills.
