Sanford Pentagon Has Sell Out Debut

Bookmark and Share

The first basketball ever to be played at the Sanford Pentagon took place Thursday night. The NBA preseason game was a full house of more than 3,000 people packed in the complex.

Travis Hoyt, Sioux Falls said, "The facility is amazing and we couldn't wait to see it."

Sherm Syverson, Fargo, ND said, "The pentagon is very impressive."

"This atmosphere is pretty exciting," said Dan Martin from Fort Pierre.

More than 3,200 people packed the Sanford Pentagon Thursday night for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Milwaukee Bucks game.

Among them were Travis Hoyt and his two sons Nick and Nate. Both boys are on basketball teams in Sioux Falls. So, naturally when they heard Nate Wolters was coming to town, they had to get a ticket to watch their basketball hero in action. Wolters was the South Dakota State stand-out and now is a point guard for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Nick Hoyt, 13, said," I'm a point guard too, so he inspires me to do well.”

Across the court was father and son duo Dan and Kedrick Martin. The pair has seen many basketball games together at the Sioux Falls Arena and drove all the way from Fort Pierre.

"What a great atmosphere and what a great facility,” said Dan.

Kedrick was just excited to see his favorite team play just feet away from him.

Kedrick said, "Timberwolves."

Then there's Sherm Syverson from Fargo, ND. He's proof that even if you aren't a basketball fan, sometimes all you need is good company, and a great facility.

“Just being here amongst all this energy, it’s a fun atmosphere," Syverson said.

For future basketball star Nick, he hopes Wolters does well so he can learn how to do the same.

"I want to see him score a lot of points," Nick said.
