A Rapid City woman accused of leaving her young child in an apartment that caught fire has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Angelita Elk Boy pleaded guilty in September to aggravated child abuse and driving under the influence. She told police she was drunk when she left her 16-month-old child alone in their apartment in March.
Firefighters recused the toddler after forcing open the apartment door.
In exchange for her plea, prosecutors dropped an accessory to child abuse charge from an unrelated case involving an older son who was also convicted of child abuse.
Elk Boy was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with six years suspended.
