The final numbers are in on how much April’s ice storm cost the city of Sioux Falls, and it’s lower than expected.
The price tag for the three day ice storm is $8.3 million. City leaders originally thought it would cost over $9 million. Sioux Falls City Finance Director Tracy Turbak said reimbursements from FEMA and the state of South Dakota have come in and will cover 85 percent of the cleanup cost. Those reimbursements total at $6 million.
“We are certainly thankful they were here for us this time, but it's important for us to be prepared and be able to handle that and frankly cover those costs in the interim,” Turbak said.
About $1.1 million will come out of the city’s general fund to cover the rest of the cleanup expenses.
