A Madison-based nonprofit is applying for a $110,000 grant to help families avoid homelessness this winter.
Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership submitted the application to the South Dakota Housing Development Authority.
Director Cindy Dannenbring says the partnership will use the Emergency Grants Solution money to help disadvantaged families with housing and self-sufficiency services in 14 eastern South Dakota counties.
Dannenbring says the goal is to avoid having people stay on any kind of subsidy.
The Emergency Solutions Grant program looks for applicants with matching funds, so ICAP has also submitted another $110,000 grant application to the S.D. Housing Opportunity Fund for a total of $220,000.
Dannenbring expects to hear if the applications were successful within the next month.
