The parents of a man shot and killed by a Sioux Falls police officer say his death was uncalled for.
Gary and Wendy Westberg say that they want answers about why police acted as they did.
Police say 22-year-old Jacob Westberg was suicidal, and was shot and killed Monday after he pointed a rifle at officers outside a Sioux Falls home. Authorities say at least one gunshot was fired from the home, and that they unsuccessfully tried to negotiate with Westberg.
Westberg's parents say he was having problems with his ex-girlfriend and their young daughter, and needed someone to talk to. Brother Matt Westberg says he could have calmed Jacob down if he'd been given more time.
The state attorney general's office is investigating if officers acted appropriately.
