October is Bullying Prevention Month and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire are gearing up to help educate our children on the effects of bullying.
On Monday, Mark Zangara joined Phil and Laura to talk about the events happening this week.
October 21-25 will be the focus week for bullying prevention. All of the children in the Youth Enrichment Services Childcare Centers and the Eastside Boys & Girls Club will learn about respect, kindness, diversity, and compassion.
There will be a week of activities encouraging children to learn to recognize feelings, celebrate diversity, and be a positive friend to others. There will also be activities where parents are encouraged to attend with their child.
Each day there will be a color focus that represents what the children will be learning about that day. Children are encouraged to dress in the color of the day to help remind everyone to take a stand against bullying.
Monday—Take a Stand Against Bullying Day
Yellow—stands for caution, slow down, take some time and learn about bullying.
White—represents a clean slate, an open book—only when you get to know someone on the inside can you see true colors
Blue—stands for feelings—we will learn to recognize our own feelings and how what we say and do affects others
Red—the color of love and power—we will learn about our positive actions and the power of love
Rainbow Colors—we will review what we have learned in the week and celebrate the difference we choose to be in the world
There will also be a showing of the film “Bully” on Friday, October 25th from 7-9pm at the Eastside Learning Center.
