Snowflakes this morning made for an almost perfect way to mark Winter Weather Preparedness Day. The National Weather Service is teaming up with the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management and releasing their Winter Weather Preparedness Guide today.
The goal is to teach people how to begin preparing for extremely cold and snowy weather. The two organizations would like to remind everyone that now is the time to start preparing themselves. They also want to remind people of the power these storms can have, as they did earlier this fall out in Western South Dakota.
"Listen to the meat of the forecast, how much snow is being predicted, how cold it is actually going to be, and then make sure you have a winter survival kit make sure you have your home properly prepared for adverse winter weather as well as your vehicles."
The National Weather Service also recommends checking www.safetravel.com before traveling this winter, the site has real time road condition monitoring.
