BROOKINGS, S.D. — Mariah Clarin and freshman Clarissa Ober each posted double-doubles as the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team opened the exhibition season with a 100-57 victory over Bemidji State (Minn.) Sunday afternoon at Frost Arena.

The Jackrabbits got out of the gates quickly, making their first five shot attempts from the field and converting a pair of free throws to complete traditional three-point plays for a 12-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.

SDSU put together an 8-0 run midway through the half, to build a 33-11 lead on a three-point play by Ober. The Jackrabbits’ 51-25 halftime lead matched their largest advantage of the first 20 minutes.

It was more of the same in the second half for the Jackrabbits, who shot 50 percent or better in each stanza. Bemidji State scored the first two points of the second half on free throws by Morgan Lee, but could get no closer than 24 points the rest of the way. The final margin of 43 points was the Jackrabbits’ largest lead of the game.

All 12 Jackrabbit players to see action in the contest scored. Clarin led the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Ober with 18 points and 11 boards as SDSU held a 54-29 rebounding advantage. Freshman Kerri Young tallied 17 points off the bench, with Megan Waytashek contributing 15 points and a game-high seven assists.

SDSU ended the afternoon 38-of-75 from the field, 50.7 percent, including 4-for-17 from three-point range. The Jackrabbits made 20-of-29 free throw attempts, 69 percent.

Lee and Kate Warmack led Bemidji State with 14 points each. The Beavers finished the game 19-of-60 from the field, 31.7 percent, including 6-of-19 from behind the arc. At the line, BSU made 13-of-16 attempts, 81.3 percent.

The Jackrabbits will close out exhibition play Friday, hosting Minnesota State, Mankato as part of a doubleheader with the men’s squad. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at Frost Arena.
