The Helpline Center is in urgent need of volunteers to plant the final trees for the Tree The Town program on Monday and Tuesday.
The Tree The Town program helped replace hundreds of trees that were destroyed in the April ice storm. Hundreds of trees were planted Saturday, but several volunteers were not able to attend, leaving many trees still in need of planting at the homes of seniors.
"Things came up for a few volunteers, and now we have seniors who don't have their trees," said Sara Carothers of the Helpline Center. "Unfortunately, it sounds like the weather will turn to winter on Wednesday, so we are asking anyone who can help to assist us in planting the last of the trees on Monday and Tuesday."
Volunteers who are able to help can call 274-1407 or 553-0141. It takes approximately 20 minutes to plant one tree. Volunteers will need to be able to haul their trees and bring a shovel.
