Daycare Provider Arrested In Orange City, IA

Bookmark and Share

An Orange City daycare provider is in jail and a 3-year-old girl has life threatening injuries after she was allegedly pushed to the ground.

According to the Orange City Police Department, Sioux Falls officers responded to a possible child abuse call at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. When they arrived, they found a three-year-old Orange City girl with serious head injuries including a fractured skull and brain trauma.

The child's mother says that she received the injuries while in the care of her daycare provider, 33-year-old Rochelle Lynn Sapp, at Sapp's home in Orange City.

Initial reports said that the child's injuries occurred when she fell down a flight of stairs.  An investigation shows that the injuries were not consistent with a fall down a flight of stairs.  When Sapp was questioned, she admitted to causing the child’s injuries by throwing her to the floor.

The child remains in critical condition with life threatening injuries.

Sapp was arrested on Thursday morning and taken to the Sioux County Jail.  Sapp is charged with Willful Injury and Child Endangerment Resulting in Serious Injury.
