Orange City Girl In Abuse Case Dies

Bookmark and Share

Orange City Police Chief Jim Pottebaum says that the 3-year-old girl who was allegedly pushed to the ground by her day care provider passed away on Thursday night.

According to the Oolman Funeral Home, Autumn Elgersma passed away on Thursday at the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Arrangements are being completed by the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Pottebaum says that he is meeting with the Sioux County States Attorney about possibility of more charges against 33-year-old Rochelle Lynn Sapp.

According to the Orange City Police Department, Sioux Falls officers responded to a possible child abuse call at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. When they arrived, they found a three-year-old Orange City girl with serious head injuries including a fractured skull and brain trauma.

The child's mother says that she received the injuries while at Sapp's home in Orange City.

Initial reports said that the child's injuries occurred when she fell down a flight of stairs.  An investigation shows that the injuries were not consistent with a fall down a flight of stairs.  When Sapp was questioned, she admitted to causing the child’s injuries by throwing her to the floor.
