Bond has been set at a half of a million dollars for a Milwaukee man accused of human trafficking. Sioux Falls Police said 33-year-old Thomas Alexander Roberts coaxed two young women to Sioux Falls to party. But that is not what Roberts planned to do with them.
Police said after Roberts brought the 17-year-old and 24-year-old to Sioux Falls, he posted an ad on the internet advertising the women as escorts. On Saturday night, The Street Crimes Division of the Sioux Falls Police Department saw the ad and set up a meeting time with the women. That led police to a motel on the east side of town, where they saw Roberts leave with the two young women. While police were asking the clerk at the hotel who was staying in the room, Roberts was seen chasing one of the women as she tried to get away. The frightened woman asked the officers for help, which then led to Roberts’s arrest.
Officer Sam Clemens with the Sioux Falls Police Department said, "Once she got here she said he wouldn't let her leave and he was forcing her to prostitute herself and was taking all of the money.”
Police said after they arrested Roberts, they also found pictures on his cell phone of the 17-year-old girl.
Roberts is facing several charges such as possession and the attempt to distribute child pornography, which could result in ten years in the state penitentiary. He also faces a human trafficking charge which could lead to 25 years in prison.
Roberts is scheduled to be back in court in a little over two weeks.
