Bosworth Responds To Land Raffle Story

Bookmark and Share

U.S. Senate candidate Annette Bosworth’s campaign manager is reacting Friday to a story KDLT News published on Thursday.

On Thursday, we published a story about a land raffle hosted by Bosworth’s non-profit, called “Preventive Health Strategies.”

Tickets went on sale more than a year ago and cost buyers $1,000 each for a chance to win 80 acres of land in Moody County. Money raised from the raffle was originally intended to fly soldiers and their families to Alaska for a fishing trip. However, the plan for the money changed and the raffle drawing never happened.

The raffle and ticket sales are still being advertised on Bosworth’s business website. Official rules for the raffle state that 500 tickets needed to be sold and the raffle would take place no later than July 15th, 2013.

Nate Fluit shared his story with KDLT News on Thursday. Fluit bought his ticket in October 2012 after watching a story KDLT News ran about the land raffle. He says he repeatedly called the non-profit to get his money back after the raffle deadline passed, but he still hasn’t seen a dime.

On Friday, Bosworth’s campaign manager, Nate Johnson, sent KDLT News a statement saying, “The issues related to Preventive Health Strategies are issues for the non-profit, and not the Bosworth for Senate campaign.”

The statement goes on to state Bosworth’s campaign focus and why she should be elected to represent South Dakotans in the U.S. Senate.
