While retail stores were getting ready for early Black Friday shoppers, grocery stores were settling down after last minute meal shoppers rushed to get everything they needed for the big Thanksgiving meal.
"I'm heading right home to serve my guests," said Darlene Johnson of Sioux Falls.
As turkey time grew closer, hundreds of last minute shoppers were hitting the grocery stores Thanksgiving Day.
"Just last incidental things. We're having a big group tonight about 30 some people," said Glenda Fluth of Sioux Falls.
"Well, we came from Pierre to see our daughter, and she doesn't have a lot in her refrigerator," said Kirk Miller of Pierre.
Miller says he and his family are picking up just about everything last minute.
"Potatoes, veggies, milk, rolls, butter, bag for the turkey, pie, the whole nine yards," said Miller.
Whether they're serving groups of 30 or a family of three, the Louise Ave. HyVee in Sioux Falls made sure everyone had what they needed for one of the biggest meals of the year.
But it wasn't just edible items shoppers were searching for.
"We're getting our grandma flowers," said one little girl.
Proving that Thanksgiving is about more than just a good meal.
"Fellowship with family. Just being with family and friends," said Fluth.
No matter what time the turkey is done, these last minute shoppers say they're just happy to be spending some quality time with their loved ones.
"It makes a wonderful day," said Johnson.
