Good deals and long lines greeted South Dakotans who ventured out for Black Friday and even a day earlier on Thanksgiving.
Kmart opened early Thursday morning and other stores in Sioux Falls followed, including the Empire Mall, which opened the doors at 8 p.m. Some store workers let a few customers in at a time to reduce overcrowding.
In Aberdeen, University of North Dakota graduate student Kelli Renner tried to study for an anatomy final as she and others stood outside Target Thursday night.
The first person in line was Chanell Brown, who planned to buy a 50-inch TV, priced at $229. She arrived at 11:30 a.m. Thursday wearing two coats but said she was still cold.
