SF Store Clerk Dodges Bullet In Armed Robbery

Bookmark and Share

A gas station clerk in sioux falls was lucky to dodge a bullet. Police are searching for the two men who fired the gunshot and robbed the business early Friday morning.

It was just after one a.m., when police say two men walked into the Cubby's gas station on W. 49th Street in Sioux Falls. The store clerk was only one person inside the store at the time.

Officer Sam Clemens said, "She was behind the counter. Both of them walked up, pointed the guns at her demanded cash."

The suspects got an undisclosed amount of cash, but the encounter wasn't over yet. Police say as the men were leaving the store, one of the suspects fired a shot in the direction of the 62-year-old woman.

Clemens said, "It looks like it was actually an intentional act, that it was not an accidental shooting."

The clerk wasn't injured as the bullet missed her. As far as police could tell, she offered no resistance.

"I don't know if there was any conversation that was exchanged or why this guy turned around, which certainly adds a whole other element to this, which we haven't seen in the past," said Clemens.

The suspects were last seen leaving the store headed west through the parking lot. Police believe they may have gotten into a vehicle, but as of right now, have no description of that car.

Clemens said, "What we're hoping is somebody saw somebody maybe a car they got into or a direction of travel these two went."

Police say the shooting has them concerned. They don't recall a case where a robber fired a shot for no apparent reason.

Both men are considered to be armed and dangerous.

One of the suspects, who police say, fired the gun is described as a 5'8" to 5'10" black male. He has a slender build. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a red bandana over his face. He was armed with a black semi automatic handgun.

The second suspect is also described as a 5'8" to 5'10" black male. He was wearing a red Columbia style coat with black shoulders and no hood. He had a red bandana over the top of his head and another covering his face. He was armed with a black and silver semi automatic handgun.

If you have any information about the crime, you're urged to call police or Crimestoppers at 367-7007.
