Nearly 15 homeowners in Spearfish want the city take care of an ongoing problem that has caused raw sewage backup in basements, washing machines, and water heaters.
Some of the residents have reported sewer backup dating back five years. Homeowner Larissa Cook says she's frustrated the group had to hire a lawyer and threaten the city with a class-action lawsuit before any action was taken.
City officials say they have hired an excavating company to divert water from the line that caused the backups. The project will cost $115,000.
