BROOKINGS, S.D. — Freshman Kerri Young (Mitchell) and junior Gabby Boever (Worthington, Minn.) recorded career highs as the South Dakota State women’s basketball team (8-4) defeated Central Michigan (3-5), 87-82, Sunday in front of 2,108 fans in Frost Arena.

The win extends the Jackrabbits’ home winning streak to nine games and an overall win streak to four games.

Young came off the bench for a team-high 21 points and Boever registered 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Senior Steph Paluch (Pierre) added 14 points, including shooting a perfect 8 for 8 from the foul line. Junior Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) collected 11 points and was one of three Jacks with a team-high five rebounds.

Crystal Bradford’s 25 points and 16 rebounds off the bench led Central Michigan. Jessica Green had 21 points and Jas’Mine Bracey collected 12 rebounds.

In the battle of mid-major programs, SDSU used transition to pull ahead of Central Michigan midway through the second half. Tied at 54 with 13:10 on the clock, senior Tara Heiser (Watertown) and Young converted back-to-back traditional three-point plays to give the Jacks a six-point lead, 60-54.

After five points from Central Michigan, South Dakota State went on a 17-7 run to push its lead to 77-66 with 4:59 remaining. The run was capped by one of three three-pointers from Young.

Central Michigan cut the Jackrabbits’ lead to four points with an 8-0 run, but Heiser’s three-pointer at 2:25 stopped the run and Paluch went 6 for 6 from the free-throw line to secure the win.

South Dakota State concludes its three-game homestand Tuesday when it hosts Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. in Frost Arena.
