Grand Forks, N.D. -
North Dakota returned home and got a much-needed victory, routing Presentation College 78-32 on Sunday afternoon at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.
After dropping five straight away from their home court, UND (3-6) jumped out to 18-0 advantage early on the Saints (10-3) and never looked back.
Senior Troy Huff
led a trio of UND scorers in double figures with 19 points. Junior Chad Calcaterra
had the first double-double of his career with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Aaron Anderson
rounded out the trio of double-figure scorers with 10 points.
"Today was about getting our confidence back and I think we did that," UND head coach Brian Jones
said. "We had a tough stretch there on the road, but bounced back today and besides a little let down on the defensive boards down the stretch, I thought we played tremendous on both sides of the ball."
The loss will not count against Presentation's record since it was an exhibition game for the NAIA school. The victory does count for UND, however, as the defense held the Saints to 32 points for the second consecutive season.
UND built a 44-13 edge at halftime as the Saints only made 4-of-32 attempts in the opening 20 minutes.
Presentation would manage just one more than that total in the second half, netting nine field goals for the game (14.5 percent).
Huff had seven field goals of his own and helped lead a 50.8 percent clip for the home team. He was one of 10 players to score for UND as six had with eight or more points. Huff also had a game-high five steals as UND forced 17 turnovers and collected 14 steals and a season-high eight blocks in the contest.
Senior Jamal Webb
dished out five assists to move past 400 for his career. He became just the fourth player in school history to achieve that feat. He also added three steals to move his school-record total in that category to 197.-Courtesy UND Athletics
