The cold is to blame for a power outage in northwest Iowa and southeast South Dakota Monday night.
MidAmerican Energy reported 1,577 customers without power at around 7:00 p.m. Monday. Power was restored about an hour later to customers in Union and Lincoln Counties in South Dakota, including the towns of Alcester, Hudson and Fairview.
However, 793 customers in Lyon County, Iowa were still without power at 9:00 p.m. Monday. Most of those are in Alvord and Inwood. MidAmerican is telling those customers to expect power to be restored later Monday night.
The outage was caused by a downed wire at a substation. A representative for MidAmerican says the cold weather on Monday caused some lines to snap or fall.
