Car Wash Frenzy

Bookmark and Share

Most of the Sioux Empire saw temperatures in the 40's and even the 50's Sunday, a heat wave after Sunday's -40 below wind chills. The warmer weather is causing quite the frenzy at some businesses in Sioux Falls.

K & H Car Wash in Sioux Falls was pretty busy. In a matter of three to four hours, the business saw over 150 cars, something they haven't seen in a while.

With only hats on their heads and vacuums in hand, the dozen employees at K & H Car Wash are staying busy during the warmest day of the year.

"I have this coat on and that's all I need, no gloves or anything," said employee, Austin Schwartz.

As one after another, cars pile in to get washed.

"{My car} is pretty dirty, it's really dirty,” said Sioux Falls resident, Paul Weigand.

Before the business even opened, there was a line of cars parked outside.

"As soon as I saw the line, I thought how it's going to be a busy day," said Schwartz.

For many at the wash, it's the first time this winter that they've given their car a much needed bath.

"It's just been piling up for a month. The dog has been in the car and it's time to do some serious action on the car," said Weigand.

While the employees give the cars one last touch, handfuls of people are even waiting outside.

"It's kind of nice to be sitting on the bench. The coats don't have to be zipped," said Sioux Falls resident, Molly Uhing.

One woman says even through all the havoc, it was a priority to sit in line. For the first time in months, her Honda is showing its true colors.

“I wanted to find out what color it was. At one point it was blue. I want to find out if it's still blue,” said Sioux Falls resident, Eva Breugdenhis.

Managers with K & H Car Wash say they were closed Sunday and Monday of last week because of the cold.

This is the warmest day we've seen since December. On that day in Sioux Falls, temperatures reached 44 degrees.
