The University of South Dakota women's basketball team is going to the big dance and as you can imagine, Coyote fans everywhere are proud.
The Coyote fans who did find championship tickets filed in to the arena, ready to witness school history.
The band, mascot, and the fans were all present and accounted for. The only thing left was for the Coyote team to shine, and shine they did.
With time winding down, the students section knew the Coyotes, for the first time ever in division one, are going dancing.
“People put us down all the time and think we're a second tier university. We're the best that's just the way things are,” said USD Sophomore, William Lewis.
“I have friends on this team which makes it more special,” added Joey Snyder of USD.
The men's team hasn't punched their ticket to the national tournament ever. But, they were right alongside the women celebrating.
“We couldn't be there. So, why not go out there and support the women, right? Cheer them on to a victory in the tournament. It's just a great day to be a Coyote,” said Trevor Gruis, a senior who played his last Summit League game on Sunday.
Fans fresh from a mini-mosh pit were still reeling from the victory.
“It was the greatest thing ever. I mean, I didn't believe it. No one believed it. Except, they believed it and they came through and that's why USD is the best,” said an excited Lewis.
The Yotes, in their second year of eligibility, will represent the Summit League, and the state of South Dakota in the NCAA Tournament.
The women's NCAA selection show will be on Monday night at 6 pm on ESPN. That's when USD will find out who and where they will play next.
