Authorities spent Friday evening on the scene of a fatal accident on Interstate 29 about six miles north of Sioux Falls. According to the highway patrol, the car veered off the road, crashed through the guard rail, launched into the ditch, rolled and burst into flames.
Crews from the Crooks Fire Department put out the flames. Emergency crews found one victim inside the blue Scion. Trooper Shannon Orth says they brought in a dive team to check a nearby pond, in case someone else was ejected from the vehicle. They did not find anyone.
Late Friday night the Highway Patrol confirmed the victim is a woman, but her name is not being released until relatives are notified. The Toyota Scion had South Dakota license plates.
