Proposed Sioux Falls Recycling Plant Raises Concerns

Visitors to Falls Park could soon be seeing a new addition to the area: A recycling plant.
But this idea isn't sitting well with some Sioux Falls city council members.
Some say after spending so much time and money making the Falls a pleasant looking attraction, a nearby recycling plant would just take away from that.
"The idea of putting something as incompatible as a scrap metal business next to one of the top 3 visited places in South Dakota doesn't make sense,” said Vernon Brown, a member of the Sioux Falls City Council.
“They've been looking for 4 years. It's not their first choice, they've outgrown their existing facility in Sioux Falls,” Jeff Schmitt of Sioux Falls City Planning explained about the proposed recycling plant.
A location by Falls Park would provide railroad access and comply with land zoning requirements. But right now its just idea. It will be brought in front of the planning committee on Wednesday.
