All-Everything (Tyson Gau)

Our Taco John's Athlete of the Week led his teams to State 'B' Legion and Amatuer Baseball titles this summer.  But Tyson Gau of Alexandria is more than just a baseball star.

Pick a sport.  Any sport.  Chances are Tyson Gau is pretty good at it.

The all-around athlete out of Alexandria recently led his Legion Baseball team to a Class 'B' State Championship, capping one of the most impressive small-town resumes ever.

"It's amazing to see him play," said Alexandria Baseball Coach Jerry Smith.  "He's one of those kids that I coached him all the way through Teeners.  It's just amazing what that kid has done over the years."

In baseball, Gau earned MVP honors at the 'B' Tournament this year and was All-State for his club team in 2008.  But there's so much more.

"Football.  Track.  Basketball.  They're all good," said Smith.

In Football, Gau quarterbacked the Hanson Beavers to the 2008 9B Championship.  He was named an All-State Defensive Back as well.  In track, he helped Hanson win a team title and three state relay championships.   And in basketball, Gau averaged nearly 20 points per game as an All-State player in that sport.  Too bad there wasn't enough time for him to wrestle, run cross country and play golf and tennis.

"To have somebody like that on a team, there's nobody around here that would not want him," said Smith.  "Because he's just a great kid, he's a good ball player.  He's fantastic."

Now in college, Gau is still excelling on the field.  He could have played football at Dakota Wesleyan, but instead decided to play baseball at Augustana where he plays outfield and pitches.

"They went over my fundamentals right away and that's helped me just to stay confident and never get down on myself," said Tyson Gau.

If his high school career is any indication, Tyson Gau will have plenty of success in college.  And he'll keep adding on to his long list of athletic accomplishments.
