Wieking Gets National Honors!

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Sept. 13, 2010) — University of Sioux Falls sophomore kicker Braden Wieking has been named the NAIA National Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the national office Monday afternoon.

The Sioux Falls native booted three field goals in a 37-7 win over Midland College last Saturday in Fremont, Neb. All three field goals were from 40 yards or more, including a career-long 44 yarder in the third quarter. Wieking added four more points on point-after-touchdown attempts, extending his national record of consecutive PATs to 109.

Wieking also handled both the kickoff and punting duties in USF’s second win of the season. Wieking punted twice for an average of 31.5 yards and recorded two touchbacks on eight kickoffs.

This season Wieking is five for five on field goals and nine of nine on PATs, while averaging 34.2 yards on five punts, two of which were downed inside the 20 yard line.

Wieking is also this week’s Great Plains Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office. It Wieking’s third career GPAC Special Teams Player of the Week award.

USF (2-0 overall, 2-0 GPAC) will play Doane College (1-1 overall, 1-1 GPAC) in their home opener this Saturday, Sept 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the USF Sanford Complex.
