Bellet Shines in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Heading into the second and final day of the OCU Stars Fall Classic, Dakota Wesleyan University women’s golfer Dani Bellet was in a tie for 21st. But Tuesday afternoon, Bellet shaved nine strokes off of her first-round score and moved from a tie for 21st to a tie for sixth to lead the Tigers in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Dakota Wesleyan finished in eighth at the nine-team tournament, which included some of the nation’s best women’s golf team. Host-school Oklahoma City University, which won the meet with a 597, was the runner up at the NAIA National Tournament in 2010 and prior to that won five straight national titles. Lubbock Christian took second with a 617 and Northwood University was third with a 629. The Tigers finished eighth with a two-day total of 676. DWU shot a 343 in the first round Monday and improved with a 333 Tuesday. 

Bellet shot an 81 Monday, but carded a 72 Tuesday for a two-day total of 153. Freshman Kamie Roesler shot a 167 and finished in 33
rd, Molly Webster tied for 39th with a 175, Samantha Mogck tied for 44th and Chelsea Burback tied for 48th. Oklahoma City’s Laura Jones and Taylor Howard finished first and second, respectively, in the individual race. Jones carded a 144 and Howard shot a 147. The fall classic wrapped up the 2010 fall season for the Tiger women. DWU is back in action in the spring when it will try for its third straight Great Plains Athletic Conference title and its seventh straight national tournament appearance.
