Brookings Bound (Wagner Larson)

Our Taco John's Athlete of the Week led her team to a second place finish this weekend at the State Volleyball Tournament.  Next year, she'll hope to compete for a Summit League Championship at SDSU.  Jason Anschutz has more on Roosevelt's Wagner Larson.

The Roosevelt volleyball team had another great season in 2010 and one big reason for the Riders' success was their star middle hitter Wagner Larson.

"Wagner has been incredible," said Roosevelt Volleyball Coach Holly Lynch.

On every single point, opposing teams had to worry about the 6'2" star.

"Our goal with Wags is to keep the other team guessing where she's gonna be at," said Lynch.  "At least take one blocker or two so we can utilize other hitters if need be."

The senior star was a force at the net this season, wreaking havoc on opposing offenses with her blocking skills.  But her attack is clearly her strength.  She racked up about 350 kills this season.

"Half of her attacks are kills and her hitting percentage is unbelievable," said Lynch.

"I think my biggest strength this year is definitely hitting," said Larson.  "Blocking, I think my teammate Heather Beaner has definitely got that under control."

Larson will take her skills to South Dakota State next fall as she joins the Jackrabbit volleyball team.

"I'm so excited," said Larson.  "I visited there a couple times and I just thought it was just the place for me, so I'm really excited."

"I think she's gonna do a phenomenal job at SDSU," said Lynch.  "I think it's a great fit for her and I think she can step on the court right away and be very effective."

"I've loved volleyball all my life," said Larson.  "I just can't wait to move on to the next step."

If her high school career was any indication, Larson will continue to be a force that opposing teams have to worry about on every single point.
