Veterans at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls are getting an early start on Christmas shopping and they're doing it at the hospital.
The American Legion Auxiliary units in South Dakota donated over 1,300 gifts for the vets this year. They set up a display on the fourth floor of the hospital in Sioux Falls and then let the veterans take their pick of the gifts, free of charge.
"Some of them don't want anything but we get them involved in picking out their gifts and before they leave they're happy and we make their day for them," said Marilyn Hobbs, a district president in the American Legion Auxiliary.
The gifts total about $11,000 and another $1,000 will be used to ship the presents to family members.
