Floor Leader (Clint Sargent)

Bookmark and Share

Clint Sargent is one of the Jackrabbit men's basketball team's top scorers.  He cracked 1000 career points as a junior and has a chance to finish in the school's all-time top ten.  For his accomplishments, we've made him our Taco John's Athlete of the Week.

Clint Sargent has been a stalwart of the SDSU men's basketball team.  The senior guard from South Sioux City, Nebraska came north and made an immediate impact on a young squad.  Now, four years later, he plays an even more integral role.

"He's our best player," said sophomore guard Nate Wolters.  "He's a senior leader.  Just does a great job.  Great shooter.  Just keeps us all in check.  Just keeps us relaxed and having fun."

Sargent led the Jacks in scoring as a junior, averaging nearly 13 points per game on a balanced team.  So far this season he's scoring even more as he tries to lead the Jacks to the top of the Summit League standings.

"We're sick of being in the middle of the pack," said Sargent.  "We want to be up there in contention every year, so we're just working on our developing through the season."

"I just think I've developed more as a leader for the group of guys on and off the court.  I've just been working with Coach Nagy and how he wants me to work with the team through him and just be more of a vocal leader."

Sargent often leads by example.  On the court, his biggest asset last season was his three-point shooting.  He led the team by making more than 41 percent of his shots from behind the arc, and he was named to the all-conference second team for his efforts.

"Without question he is, if not the best shooter in the league, one of them," said men's basketball head coach Scott Nagy.

"I think when other teams look at us I think that's gonna be their main focus and usually they do put their best defender on Clint."

That also helps make the rest of the team better.

"When Clint is aggressive it frees everybody else up and the defense is so focused on Clint that other guys get easy shots," said Nagy.

When it comes to shooting, Clint Sargent always makes it look easy.  That's why he'll go down as one of the school's all-time leading scorers.
