Snowblower Sales Soar in Sioux Falls

While this weekend's snow storm brought much of the area to a standstill, some businesses are still booming because of it. Snow blowers are a hot item, and many stores in Sioux Falls are already sold out--some for the season.
When snow piles up, the snow blowers come out. But, if you don't already have one, you might be out of luck this winter.
"With that first snowfall this last weekend, we basically sold out of everything that we had in stock," said Sears store manager Denny Woolheater.
This is the spot where snow blowers are put on display at Sears. By the end of Sunday, even the floor models were sold. While they can take a limited number of orders, managers don't expect to get anymore in the store this season.
"I am not anticipating having any physical stock. It's going to be today is the last shot, if not early tomorrow morning," said Woolheater.
Ideal Yardware is one of the few places that has snow blowers in stock, but they don't expect their inventory to last through the week.
"We have maybe 60 left, but, for us, that's maybe a day, day and a half of inventory," said Cory Hansen, owner of Ideal Yardware.
Hansen says the store got a shipment of snow blowers in Friday, just before the blizzard hit. The next won't arrive until early next week.
"That'll be great to get those because we're supposed to get more snow, I heard," said Hansen.
Managers at both stores say snow blowers are almost always hot items, but this year, sales started early, and they're better than ever.
"There's a lot of people that made it through last year and saved up to buy units, so this year we stocked way more in the summer than we normally would," said Hansen.
"I wouldn't want to call it a panic, but I think they just remember last year," said Woolheater.
With more snow sure to come this winter, managers think demand will stay strong. They also say service technicians are busy, with more snow blowers being brought in for repairs.
