Dakota Beef Pulls From Howard Plant
February 09, 2010 12:30 PM
Organic beef producer Dakota Beef is ending its packing operation in the southeastern South Dakota town of Howard and entering into a partnership with North Dakota Natural Beef in Fargo.
Dakota Beef CEO Daniel Feinberg says it makes more financial sense to partner with the North Dakota company than to renovate the Howard facility.
Dakota Beef has leased the Howard plant to another beef producer. Some of the employees at the plant will be offered jobs with the new company while others will be offered positions in North Dakota.
The North Dakota company makes products under the Dakota Farms label. It was established in 2005 as a joint venture between North Dakota Natural Beef LLC and North Dakota State University's beef research program. |
