Jacks Roll Over Winless Centenary

Four South Dakota State players scored in double figures as the Jackrabbit women's basketball team ended a four-game home losing streak with a convincing 89-37 victory over Centenary (La.) in Summit League action Monday night at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits improved to 6-10 overall and 2-3 in league play. Centenary, playing its last season at the Division I level, remained winless at 0-13 overall and 0-6 in The Summit League.
SDSU got out of the gates quickly as Jill Young, Kristin Rotert and Ashley Eide all connected on three-pointers to open the game with a 13-0 run in the first three-plus minutes. The Jackrabbits extended their lead to 30-8 on another Rotert three-pointer with 7 minutes and 47 seconds remaining in the half, then put together another 13-0 spurt late in the half to go up 50-15. SDSU led 50-16 at intermission.
It was more of the same in the second half for the Jackrabbits, who out-scored Centenary 22-5 in the first eight-plus minutes. SDSU's largest lead of the night was 56 points, 83-27.
All 12 players to see action for SDSU scored at least three points in Monday's contest. Jennie Sunnarborg led the Jackrabbits' balanced offensive attack with 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and added eight rebounds. Hannah Strop came off the bench to score a career-high 12 points, all of which came in the second half, with Katie Lingle scoring a career-high 11 and Rotert contributing 10. Lingle also recorded seven rebounds and a career-best seven blocked shots.
Overall, the Jackrabbits made 37-of-72 shots from the field, 51.4 percent, including a 7-for-22 effort from three-point range. SDSU struggled at the line, however, going 8-of-16 for 50 percent.
SDSU won the battle of the boards, 51-34, and committed a season-low 11 turnovers.
Ashley Jackson posted a double-double for Centenary, tallying game highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds. Megan Daniel sank three three-pointers en route to 11 points.
The Ladies finished the game 14-of-57 from the field, 24.6 percent, including 4-for-16 from three-point range. Centenary made 5-of-8 free throw attempts, 62.5 percent.
The Jackrabbits return to Summit League action Saturday (Jan. 15) at IUPUI.
