March is National Colon Cancer Awareness Month. This Morning Denise Kolba, from the American Cancer Society Joined us on the Morning Show to help us learn more about the third most common cancer in the United States. Denise Told us that colon cancer is also one of the easiest cancers to prevent when detected early.
Colon cancer starts out as polyps in the colon, overtime if left and undetected they can turn into colon cancer.
Those polyps can be found with a routine outpatient procedure called a colonoscopy.
Denise said most people are a little wary of this procedure because it does involve a somewhat unpleasant prep, but to beat the cancer it is totally worth it.
Denise also shared with us some tips for keeping yourself healthy and reducing your chance of getting colon cancer.
1. Maintain a healthy body weight.
2. Exercise regularly
3. Eat less red meat and more vegetables, fruit and fiber
(American's don't get nearly enough fiber-The recommended amount is 30 grams per day)

These tips will not only reduce chances of getting colon cancer, but also living a happy, healthy life.
