It's a problem we hear about all too often on the news these days; youth in America harming or killing themselves due to bullying in our schools or online.
Now an event taking place in Sioux Falls is aimed at educating the public on bullying and what they can do to prevent it.
Monday morning Ann Henkin, and John Hegg, professional counselors joined us on the Morning Show to talk about the rise in bullying and why it is becoming a much bigger issue than it has in years past.
Henkin, and Hegg said social media like Twitter and Facebook have made bullying extend outside the realm of the classroom. This Thursday, the Communities Joining Together to Prevent Bullying and Cruelty, is taking place to bring awareness to bullying, how to better understand it and how to prevent it.
The event takes place this Thursday, April, 28 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Our Savior's Lutheran Church
909 W. 33rd St.
Sioux Falls, SD
Free and open to the public.
Guest speakers: Dr. Carl Pickhardt and Shane Windmeyer, M.Ed who will discuss bullying in communities and schools, gay and lesbian issues, and promoting environments of respect and safety.
Parents, Educators, Professionals, Community Workers, Volunteers, and Young people interested in safe and respectful communities are welcome to attend.
