Meyer, McMahon Lead Augie to Shutout Win

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Theresa McMahon belted her team leading 14th home run of the season as No. 1-seeded Augustana swept No. 8-seeded U-Mary 5-0 in the opening round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon.
The Vikings are now 42-7 on the season. U-Mary is 28-21 as they continued on in the day with a 11-9 win over No. 5-seeded Winona State.
Ashley Meyer was in the circle for the Vikings. It was her eighth shutout of the season. Meyer allowed seven hits and had four strikeouts. Theresa McMahon plated Augustana's first three runs of the game in the second inning with her homer.
The Vikings added their final two runs in the third inning. Kelsey Kalkman reached on a fielder's choice to score Traci Fransen. Later in the inning, Brittany Coufal hit a sac fly allowing Lindsay Spanton to score. Taylor Kapsch grounded out to close the inning with Chelsey Durland and Kalkman on second and third, respectively.
Augustana returns to Bowden Field Friday at 10 a.m. against 4-seeded Minnesota State.
