A Quarterback With Wheels, Chris Dixon

Bookmark and Share

Storm Quarterback Chris Dixon, our Taco John's Athlete of the Week, can make things happen on the football field in many different ways, and his teammates realize that because of how much opposing defenses respect him.

"I don't have to work as hard." Storm Wide Receiver James Terry says, "When he comes in he brings that extra running ability, and he can throw the ball pretty well too."

Pretty well indeed, through ten games, all of them wins, Dixon has a passer rating of 119.7, the best in the league for players with over 20 pass attempts. He's gotten to that mark by completing 152 of 225 passes for 51 touchdowns. And as for that extra running ability.

"It's just like having two running backs back there with Chris," Storm Running Back James Jones says, "A lot of times he takes the focus off us and puts the focus on him. And we're able to cut loose a little bit and it's just hard for teams to stop two or three athletes at one time, and Chris makes it hard for them."

The success Dixon is having this season is no surprise, the former league MVP led the Billings Outlaws to three championships, including back to back championships in 2009 and last season. After the Outlaws folded this past summer due to a tornado destroying their facilities, Dixon came to the Storm to take over for retiring quarterback Terrance Bryant, and the transition has been an ease.

"He's an athlete man," Jones says, "He was able to step in and keep the winning going in this organization, and he's a good guy man, he's fun to be with."

But even though things are going great for the Storm, Dixon's still hungry.

"I'm missing in a lot of places, like the game the other night," Dixon says, "15-20, I should've been 18-20, maybe even 20-20 if we'd read some things right. As a quarterback you can never be satisfied with your performance and that's what's kept me rolling these last couple years, just never being satisfied."

And that's just the kind of attitude the Storm want under center.
