It's that time of year for farmer's to begin their harvest. But many people might not know what all goes in to getting food from the field to your table.

Soybean farmer Jerry Schmitz says farmers prepare for months to harvest. He says things are a little different for each farmer, but for his family, they start with a checklist. He wants a quality crop, so he checks the bins to be weather tight, checking the equipment they'll be using, and making sure safety is a priority. Schmitz says it's a long affair, so while family members are out in the fields, the other family members who aren't in the fields are helping make meals.

Schmitz says this time of year, farmers are closely watching the moisture levels of the crops so they know exactly when is a good time to bring them in.
