SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -

October is domestic violence awareness month, and the Purple Purse Campaign aims to help victims of abuse get back on their feet and live life again.

Dan Pickering with Allstate says the Purple Purse Foundation raises funds to help local shelters assist women and children who are victims of domestic abuse. He adds that from now until Wednesday, October 5, the South Dakota Network Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault is in competition with organizations from around the country for a $10,000 grant from the Allstate Foundation.

Kathy Rutten, the head director of the South Dakota Network Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, says the money raised through the campaign will go to the Network and will be distributed to local organizations around the state to help provide assistance to those who need it, whether its transportation, medicine, housing and more.

There will be a celebration for the Purple Purse Campaign on Saturday, October 22 at The Bakery including music, magic and more.
