SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure kicks off this Sunday at Falls Park. It is, of course, a major fundraiser that aims to find a cure for breast cancer. It's not too late to get involved!

The executive director of Susan G. Komen South Dakota, Mary Kolsrud, says people can still register online or the day of the event starting at 7 a.m. Kolsrud says you don't need to be on a team, but it's always more fun to be on a team! She says one in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer, though great strides have been made in research. The money from Race for the Cure goes to research as well as programs across the state for diagnostic services, transportation, and more. Kolsrud says breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers and the research done on breast cancer can also help find cures and treatments for other cancers.

Kolsrud highlights that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and they'll be kicking it off at the Empire Mall on October 1.
