The Daily Scoop is our morning segment that highlights stories trending on social media.
Disney's latest animated film surfed into first during its debut weekend at the box office. "Moana" earned more than $55 million. The film features Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and is about a princess's mythical journey in ancient Polynesia. The film brought in just over $81 million over the five-day weekend, which is the second highest turkey day debut total ever.
Falling to second place was J.K. Rowling's "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” which earned just over $45 million. The Harry Potter spin-off has brought in over $156 million in its two weeks in theaters.
Rounding out the top spots in a distant third was another Disney film, "Doctor Strange," which brought in just over $13 million.
90s Rapper Collapses on Stage
A 1990's rapper appears to be okay Saturday evening after collapsing on stage at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.
Tone Loc was performing as part of the “I Love the 90s Tour.” Spectators say the performer was just a few songs in when he apparently collapsed on stage. The show was halted for about 10 minutes. Tone Loc did reappear to finish his set.
Special Senior Day
The Iron Bowl also served as Alabama’s Senior Day.
All of the seniors on Alabama’s football team were honored in front of the capacity crowd at Bryant-Denny stadium, but it was especially meaningful to one senior.
Walk-on running back Lawrence Erekosima was surprised by his mother who traveled all the way from Kuwait to be on hand to honor her son. Jacqueline Page, a 12-year army veteran, has served three tours of duty in Iraq and is currently stationed in Kuwait. She received special permission to travel back to Alabama for the occasion.
