October is Public Safety Month, and Firehouse Subs makes it its mission to not only provide delicious food but also to give back to local first responders all around the nation. This month, the chain is featuring its "hook and ladder" sandwich.

Owner of Firehouse Subs in Sioux Falls Eric Engelstad says the chain supports first responders by encouraging customers to round up their order to the nearest dollar amount, buy used pickle buckets for $2, or make a freewill donation in the container at the register. Local departments can apply for those funds, and last year alone the Firehouse Subs Foundation gave back over $72,000 in South Dakota. Firehouse Subs collects money all throughout the year, but because October is Public Safety Month, the nationwide foundation is aiming to collect over $750,000 to provide for life-saving assistance.

This month, Firehouse Subs is featuring the Hook and Ladder sandwich, which has smoked turkey, honey ham, Monterey jack cheese, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, and onion.

Kids can get kids' meals for free on Sundays at the Sioux Falls locations, and that includes a free firehouse hat.
