BROOKINGS, S.D. -

Two people have died after a car crash on Highway 14 near Volga Friday evening.

According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, 4-year-old Jasmine Mathis of Sioux Falls, died Sunday after her injuries from the accident. Cheryl Hartman, 62, of Lake Preston was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hartman was driving east on Highway 14 in an Oldsmobile Alero when she crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle, officials say.

There were three juveniles in the westbound vehicle, including Mathis and an 11-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl.

The female driver of the Pontiac Grand Prix, Jennifer Moser, 27, Brookings, also sustained life threatening injuries. The injured individuals were transported to a Sioux Falls hospital.

Everyone involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts. Mathis was not in a child restraint system.
